Welcome

Writing well can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. With your bright ideas and my expertise, we can make your writing shine.

I’m Kelsey Keyes, a professional editor and writer with a passion for all things written. I provide editing and writing support for personal, professional, academic, and technical projects.

As a Professor Emerita with graduate degrees in English Literature and Library and Information Science, I have over two decades of experience in higher education, making me well-equipped to edit academic work—from peer-reviewed articles and tenure narratives to monographs.

I also have first-hand experience with the entire book publishing process as the author of an academic book. I can help you write a book proposal, create and stick to a writing plan, edit your manuscript, and review page proofs.

I offer comprehensive support throughout the writing process—consulting, coaching, and editing—or focus on final-stage services like copy editing, proofreading, and formatting to prepare your final draft.

During an initial consultation, I’ll learn your goals and deadlines to ensure my work is thorough and timely.

My Story

Academia

With over two decades of experience in literature, composition, rhetoric, research, and information science, I now work as an editing and writing consultant. I also edit academic journals and books for ACRL (Association of College & Research Libraries) and Duke University Press.

As a Professor Emerita and research librarian, I supported students and academics in all aspects of researching, writing, and editing. I particularly enjoy helping non-native English speakers and international students refine their writing to clearly express their ideas.

Working in tenure-track and tenured roles, I authored and edited numerous peer-reviewed articles, CVs, grant and research proposals, presentations, and tenure narratives. I also published an academic monograph with ACRL in 2023.

I am experienced with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research and can edit work across the humanities, social sciences, and STEM fields. With a certificate in data analysis, I can review and edit statistics and figures as needed.

Familiar with APA, MLA, and Chicago styles, I can also adhere to other citation guidelines as required.

Popular and technical writing

As a lifelong reader, writer, librarian, and storyteller, I am passionate about supporting your writing journey!

With graduate degrees in English Literature and Library and Information Science, along with experience leading a national ALA book selection committee, I have extensive exposure to diverse writing styles—from creative non-fiction and memoirs to long- and short-form articles, blog posts, newsletters, young adult, middle grade, and children’s books.

I also specialize in technical writing, including cover letters, resumes, business documents, and slide decks, ensuring clear, concise, and consistent communication.

I can assist at every stage of the writing process, from developing your ideas and finding your voice to organizing your content, providing constructive feedback, and offering comprehensive editing support.
